Bonnie Walker’s expertise as JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion) practitioner includes education and visionary thought leadership, community building, personal and organizational development, attention to cultural humility, planning for change and innovation. She focuses on diverse candidate pipelines, and sustainable diversity initiatives and policies that make communities stronger and more connected, that are intentional about accessibility and belonging for all constituents. She began her career at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in admissions as a generalist, then promoted to director of multicultural recruitment, to director of multicultural affairs, and ended her tenure as executive director of diversity and inclusion strategy, leading and serving in a consultative role implementing institutional DEI initiatives focused on strategic frameworks. In her role as Director of Equity and Inclusion at Worcester Academy, Bonnie coordinated hands-on operational and programmatic work, with that of strategic planning and vision for the Academy. As Principal Diversity & Inclusion Officer, at MIT Lincoln Laboratory, Bonnie consults for, and collaborates with leaders and stakeholders to execute strategies, and develop programs and practices that support and advance the Lab’s continued commitment to diversity and inclusion (D&I). The role provides strategic thought leadership using evidence-/data-based methods and solutions to support a holistic approach to D&I. Bonnie is First Vice President for the Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts (GSCWM) Board of Directors. She received the Worcester Business Journal Forty Under Forty, Class of 2019 Award for young professionals in the region who share a commitment to business success and personal growth, along with a passion to help strengthen the communities that they live and work in. In April 2019, Bonnie launched a column in the WBJ, “Think Outside the Box,” focusing on diversity and inclusion issues in the workplace, where in 2020 and 2021 she received 3rd place in the New England Better Newspaper Competition, for Serious Columnist. Bonnie earned her B.A., magna cum laude, in Sociology, and M.A. in Communications, both from Clark University (Worcester) and her CCDP from Cornell University, in 2023. She has been plying this arena in DEI work for over 16 years.
